Sacramento authorities are probing a gunfire incident that broke out on April 18 2026 at the Howe Community Park area at the time Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dispersing an unsanctioned gathering of several hundred people.
Before the Gunfire
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies first arrived at the park just after 6:30 Saturday evening after obtaining information of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Not long after, a follow-up call was made describing an alleged brawl taking place inside the park.
An overhead unit was sent to survey the area but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Nevertheless, it was apparent that a massive group had gathered without authorization without official sanction.
When the Shots Rang Out
Officers began the process of clearing the park by surrounding the park and issuing commands over loudspeakers commanding the assembled crowd to clear out. About 15 minutes were given for people to comply.
Just as the crowd began to move that 20 to 25 gunshots echoed through the night. The sudden gunfire triggered a stampede. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies swiftly started searching for victims.
Four Gunshot Victims
Altogether, four individuals were identified as having gunshot wounds. The four individuals — a group of one female and three male victims each reported to be in their mid to late twenties — were rushed to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Hospital staff noted that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one person's injuries were considered minor. Thankfully, all four were expected to survive.
Sacramento fire crews also responded and assisted with medical triage shooting victims at the scene.
The Investigation
The primary shooting scene seemed to have happened near Cottage Way alongside the Home Depot store on the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. CSI personnel located extra shell casings along Cottage Way. Round impacts were noted in the iron fence surrounding the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries suggested that a second shooter had been aiming south from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot store. The Home Depot was temporarily locked down while the scene was active. Crime scene personnel stayed at the location for hours.
Suspect Vehicle Located
Details gathered through law enforcement radio communications established that a Kia connected to the shooting had been stopped in the Solano County area. Four people were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Deputies were sent to retrieve the detainees to pick up those detained click here for further questioning. Footage analyzed by investigators revealed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
